CID launches probe into Sylhet stone looting
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has officially launched an investigation into the recent white stone looting incident in Sylhet, amid growing public concern and multiple intelligence inputs.
The Financial Crime Unit of the CID has initiated the probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012, said Special Superintendent of Police (Media) of CID Jasim Uddin Khan. The decision comes after numerous reports in electronic and print media, along with credible complaints from various sources.
Preliminary findings suggest the involvement of around 50 individuals, prompting the CID to act swiftly. Investigators suspect that the looting was orchestrated by organized crime groups aiming to profit financially from large-scale environmental exploitation.
“The CID is committed to taking appropriate legal action against all those involved in this crime,” said Jasim Uddin Khan.
