Eight NBR officials suspended for ‘publicly defying transfer orders’

The government on Tuesday suspended eight officials of the National Board of Revenue(NBR) for ‘publicly tearing up’ their transfer orders.

The Internal Resources Department (IRD) issued separate orders in this regard on Tuesday.

The suspended officials are Dhaka Tax Zone-2 Joint Tax Commissioner Masuma Khatun, Tax Zone-15 Joint Tax Commissioner Murad Ahmed, Kushtia Tax Zone Morshed Uddin Khan, Noakhali Tax Zone Joint Tax Commissioner Monalisa Shahreen Sushmita, Cox's Bazar Tax Zone Joint Tax Commissioner Ashraful Alam Pradhan, Khulna Tax Zone Excise Commissioner Shihabul Islam, Rangpur Tax Zone Excise Commissioner Nushrat Jahan, and Comilla Tax Zone Excise Commissioner Imam Touhid Hasan.

According to NBR sources, all of them were involved in the protests last month.

According to the order, this decision was taken after conducting a departmental inquiry against them for their arrogant behavior by publicly tearing up the transfer orders issued on June 22.

During the suspension period, they will be entitled due allowances as per the government rules.

Internal Resources Division Secretary and NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan signed the order.

Last week, the ACC launched an investigation against 16 officials, including two members of the NBR. Most of them were involved in the movement.

So far, three members and one commissioner have been sent on compulsory retirement since the movement was withdrawn.

The commissioner of the Chittagong Customs House was suspended for stopping work during complete shutdown programme on June 28 and 29.
