Former state minister for planning Dr Shamsul Alam was arrested by detectives from the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Thursday.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest but said the specific case is yet to be determined.
Dr Shamsul Alam was appointed as the state minister for planning under the technocrat quota in July 2021. Prior to that, he served as a member (senior secretary) of the General Economics Division (GED) of the Planning Commission.
A recipient of the Ekushey Padak for his contribution to economics, Dr Alam served as a professor at Bangladesh Agricultural University for 35 years.
