Interim govt must not decide on sovereignty: Revolutionary Communist League

The Revolutionary Communist League of Bangladesh has warned that the interim government must refrain from making decisions that compromise national sovereignty and regional security.

Speaking at a discussion held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday, the party’s General Secretary Iqbal Kabir Zahid said, “The caretaker administration has no mandate to decide on matters related to sovereignty, security, regional stability, or broader geopolitical concerns.”

He pointed to recent developments—such as proposed talks on a “humanitarian corridor” with Rakhine State, foreign involvement in managing the Chattogram Port terminal, and defense-related investments within Export Processing Zones (EPZs)—as decisions beyond the jurisdiction of a transitional authority.

“The sole responsibility of the interim government is to ensure a free, fair, and participatory election,” he added.

Echoing the concern, economist and activist Professor Anu Muhammad, along with other speakers, called for the formation of a national committee comprising progressive and democratic forces to resist any agreement deemed anti-national.

The event drew participation from leaders of various leftist parties and progressive organizations.
