Tripartite to solve Grameenphone penalty dues in June

The interim government will hold a tripartite meeting in mid of June to solve the pending issue of justice for 5 percent penalty dues of Grameenphone that illegally withheld for more than 15 years.

Advisor M Sakhawat Hussain made the pledge while a group of former GP employees called on him at Secretariat office in Dhaka on Monday. Labour Ministry Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman, Additional Secretary Fahmida Akhtar and Abu Sadat Md Shoyeb, convener at Grameenphone 5 percent Delayed Dues Recovery Unity Council, were present on the occasion.

Advisor M Sakhawat Hussain has listened statements of agitators with patience and sincerity and directed a tripartite meeting to ensure speedy progress in this matter in representation of the government, Grameenphone authorities and former employees would participate.

 He verbally instructed the concerned secretaries to take necessary steps in this regard.

The leaders informed that the dues have not been paid even after the government issued notification (SRO No. 336- Act/2010). Although the company concerned filed a writ case, they withdrew the writ on 6 March 2023, which is legally obliged to pay the dues to the Grameenphone workers within one month.

Besides, a group of former GP employees staged demo in front of Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Monday demanding justice for 5 percent penalty dues that illegally withheld over years.
